“Traditionally, exterior components on our machines were cast from Aluminium. Wilf and the team at Broanmain encouraged us to review this way of thinking, as they were able to offer a range of durable materials and sensible tooling prices. We started several years ago with one component and now have over twenty two components in series production.”
Lightweighting project slashes fuel emissions and part costs
Global street cleaning vehicle manufacturer Johnston Sweepers is reaping the benefits of switching from metal fabricated components to plastics parts moulded by Broanmain Plastics.
Questions about plastic components for automotive and motorsport
It depends on the application. Glass-filled nylon (PA6/66 GF) is our go-to for structural under-bonnet components needing strength and heat resistance. PBT is widely specified for connectors and sensor housings. PC/ABS gives a great balance of toughness and surface finish for interior trim, and POM (acetal) is the right choice where dimensional stability and low friction matter. We also process PEEK for the most demanding motorsport and high-temperature applications.
Yes. We routinely produce First Article Inspection Reports for new tools and can support PPAP submission requirements. Our Quality Manager is a certified Lead Auditor competent in ISO 9001, and we have produced full PPAP packages for tier-one and tier-two automotive customers.
We comfortably produce over 200,000 components per week across our fleet of 11 injection moulding machines, ranging from 25 to 500 tonnes. We can scale from prototype runs through to full series production, and our Kanban supply system supports just-in-time delivery for production lines.
Yes. Insert moulding is a regular part of our production for automotive customers, particularly for connectors, threaded inserts and brackets requiring metal-to-plastic integration. We can advise on insert design, material compatibility and tooling requirements.
We aim to respond to all quote enquiries within 24 hours. For a detailed estimate we will need a 2D or 3D CAD file, your annual volume estimate, and any relevant material or specification requirements. Send us what you have and we will tell you what else we need.
